In Ayurveda, 6 types of CHARYA(REGIMEN) is mentioned:-

  1. Dincharya (Daily regimen)
  2. Ratricharya (Night regimen)
  3. Ritucharya (Seasonal regimen)
  4. Rajswala paricharya (Regimen for menstruation)
  5. Garbhini paricharya (Regimen during Pregnancy)
  6. Shishu Paricharya (Regimen for babies)

This regimen is given for a good healthy lifestyle. If one wants to live healthy, DINCHARYA, RITUCHARYA AND RATRICHARYA must follow.

According to different Samhitas, we will take a look at RATRICHARYA(NIGHT REGIMEN).

RATRIBHOJANA:-

  • The meal should be taken within the FIRST PRAHARA (First three hours ) of the night.
  • It should be in less quantity.
  • It should be devoided of difficult things for digestion.

BHOJANOTTAR KARMA:-

  • After taking Laghu (Light), Pathya (good for one) ahara, one should go to bed with a pleasant mind, after praying to gods whom they believe in thinking about how their day went.
  • The sleeping place must be a clean, open place without many persons or with 2 or 3 servants.
  • The bed should be of knee height, Broad, Soft, and Clean, and with appropriate Broad and soft Pillows.
  • The bed should be comfortable.
  • One should Sleep with head towards EAST or SOUTH without directing leg towards Teachers or elders.
  • One should always be engaged in DHARMA in the first and last parts of the night.

So this is all about Ratricharya to be followed by healthy people to live healthily and for diseased to be healthy.
