Definition:
Shitapitta is a Tvak Vikara (skin disease) characterized by itchy wheals, redness, swelling, burning sensation and pain.It is a Tridoshaja Vyadhi caused by Kapha and Vata aggravation associated with Pitta.It can be correlated with Urticaria (Hives) in modern medicine, where transient itchy wheals appear on skin or mucous membranes.
Causes:
- Cold exposure (Shita Sevana)
- Viruddha Ahara
- Cold, heavy, oily food
- Kapha-Vata aggravation
- Food and drug allergy
Symptoms:
- Varati Damsha Samsthana Shotha (wheals)
- Kandu (itching)
- Daha / Vidaha (burning)
- Shula (pain)
- Red, raised rashes
Treatment:
- Langhana
- Shodhana Chikitsa (Vamana , Virechan and Raktamokshan )
- Shamana Chikitsa
- Avoid cold, allergic food
- Nidana Parivarjana
