Definition

Swollen veins around the anus that may bleed, protrude, or cause pain. In Ayurveda, it is called Arsha.

Causes

  • Straining during constipation or diarrhea
  • Pregnancy
  • Sitting for long periods
  • Weak anal veins
  • Spicy, oily, heavy foods

Symptoms

  • Bright red bleeding after stool
  • Pain or discomfort
  • Itching around the anus
  • Mucus discharge
  • Prolapse of tissue (sometimes requires manual push-back)
  • Painful clot in prolapsed piles

Treatment

  • Prevent constipation: high-fiber diet, fluids
  • Band ligation for internal piles
  • Surgery (Haemorrhoidectomy) for severe cases
  • Local care: Sitz baths with Panchavalkal kwath
  • Ayurvedic medicines,Yoga & Exercise: Regular walking, avoid prolonged sitting
